Books For The Classroom

Lately in my 9th grade reading class, we have been reading about how the media and news can influence the way people think. When talking more with the students about what we are reading, we got into a discussion how most turn to twitter as their media. Then I had this idea! When teaching reading at a high school level, it is difficult to get students to read for fun. But then if you look at what influences students, it's their role models and who they look up to. So, here is what we are going to try to do. Students will tweet this link to who they look up to, also using the #msrabunslibrary. This is what we are asking from the role model or influence:
* Please donate your favorite book to our classroom and share why it is your favorite book.
*Books can be donated to:
Ms. Madison Rabun
10600 Riverside Drive
Coral Springs, FL, 33071

These books will be put on a special bookshelf with their letters explaining why students should read them. So please help us out with our social experiment and building our classroom library.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and have a great day!

Lexile Levels

This has been a very short week! We did start the pretest for Achieve3000 this week, this way the students can learn their lexile levels. Students also looked at their GPAs and at what colleges are looking for from them.

Also this Friday is our first home football game. Our home games are at Coral Springs High School. Students can get into this game for $3. Game starts at 7 and we are playing South Plantation. If students go and say hello to me at the game, they will get extra credit. I hope everyone had a nice weekend.
